100 % Remote: Senior SAP SD ATP/BOP Expert - Legacy Analysis & Process Optimization (m/f/d) - #2717281

For our client, a global market leader in consumer goods and industrial solutions, we are seeking an experienced freelance Senior SAP SD Specialist with deep technical and functional expertise in ATP (Available to Promise) and BOP (Backorder Processing).

The ideal candidate will take full ownership of conducting technical deep dives into complex, highly customized SAP SD legacy environments. This includes reverse-engineering custom ABAP developments (Z-code, user exits, enhancements) independently to uncover underlying business logic and process dependencies.

Technical Analysis & Reverse Engineering

• Conduct technical deep dives into the existing SAP SD ATP and Backorder Processing (BOP) landscape, including custom ABAP programs, Z-tables, enhancements, user exits, and region-/plant-specific logic.
• Reverse engineer legacy custom solutions to uncover underlying business logic, data flows, program interactions, and technical dependencies during sales order creation and rescheduling.
• Evaluate custom ATP behavior to identify root causes of process variations, inefficiencies, and system complexities.
  
  

Concept & Feasibility Assessment

• Assess options, technical impacts, and dependencies for temporarily deactivating ATP checks during order creation (enabling sales order creation without initial confirmations).
• Analyze plant- and region-specific configurations influencing ATP execution and process timing.
  
  

Standardization & Governance Design

• Develop recommendations for harmonized execution processes across ATP, delivery note creation, and shipment planning, including job scheduling and operational standards.
• Define robust governance standards and monitoring mechanisms to ensure long-term process consistency across all sites.
  
  

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Prepare technical and functional documentation detailing current-state analysis, Z-code logic, data flows, and target recommendations.
• Deliver comprehensive knowledge transfer sessions to internal teams for review, approval, and long-term operational retention.
  
  

Key Deliverables

• Technical Inventory & Diagnostic Assessment: Documentation of existing ATP/BOP custom code, enhancements, user exits, dependencies, and root causes of complexity.
• Feasibility & Optimization Report: Evaluation of deactivating ATP on order creation and proposals for standardized ATP/delivery/shipment execution and governance framework.
• Handover & Knowledge Package: Comprehensive technical documentation package and formal handover/knowledge transfer to internal teams.
  
  

SAP Functional Depth

• Extensive freelance consulting experience in SAP SD (Sales & Distribution) with specialized expertise in ATP (Available to Promise) and Backorder Processing (BOP).
• Strong end-to-end understanding of supply chain execution processes, including order management, delivery creation, shipment planning, and batch job scheduling.
  
  

Technical Reverse Engineering Skills

• Proven ability to analyze and reverse engineer custom ABAP developments (user exits, enhancements, custom routines, dependencies between Z-programs and standard tables) without requiring ABAP developer support.
• Deep experience in diagnosing root causes of complex system behaviors and process bottlenecks.
  
  

Process Optimization & Governance

• Strong track record in process harmonization, standard operating model design, and governance definition in large enterprise environments.
• Ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear strategic recommendations and actionable documentation.

• Autonomous, analytical, and structured methodology with a deliverable-driven focus.
• Fluent in professional English (written and spoken); German is beneficial.
• Experience operating as an independent external advisor representing external consulting expertise clearly and professionally.
